"Dealing with Smoke Trilogy" is the first hand account about how an enlisted soldier became one of the most lucrative drug dealers you will never know. Michael came in the U.S. Army with the intent to become the next Eisenhower. However, he quickly learned that "good guys" don't make it to the top. Caught up in a world he was already familiar with; he decides to make it work too his advantage. As told by Michael, the trilogy is written from the mouthpiece of the man who controlled the U.S Army before it all came crashing down. If you like Quick Reads and exciting short stories than "Dealing with Smoke" is the read for you.
Dealing With Smoke Confessions of a Military Drug Dealer Trilogy Introduction Book 1 edition by Archie Kennedy Literature Fiction eBooks
“Dealing with Smoke” tells Part One of a compelling, confessional narrative about an Army enlistee who, tempted by the allure of big money, becomes a big-time drug dealer in Washington State. The story is a bare-bones telling of how soldier Michael falls into the world of fast money through drug dealing.Michael comes across as unapologetic, rough, and jaded. He is telling his story, or making his confession, as a factual account without giving much background or revealing his inner thoughts and emotions. I got the sense that this character would have delved into criminal activity no matter what path his life took.
The short story, which reads more like a true-life article than a work of fiction, ends with more trouble on the horizon for Michael as he begins a sordid affair with a friend’s wife.
Pros: A compelling, gritty piece with fast pacing. It jumps right into the story.
Cons: It needs better proofing/editing. I personally don’t think it is effective to end a segment with “What I’m about to say next will blow your mind,” and “This confession is about to get wild.” That’s telling the reader how they are going to feel and/or think about the piece instead of letting the narrative speak for itself.
